On Site Installation at the Mackenzie House
Inspired by the absence of a bathroom in Mackenzie House, this installation uses the typology of the outhouse to explore the evolution of building practices alongside the rise of mass production. The structure combines board-and-batten cladding, referencing pre-industrial construction methods, with the lightweight framework of a contemporary theatre or film flat, highlighting the shift toward speed, standardization, and disposability in modern construction. While rooted in the form of an outhouse, the structure remains intentionally ambiguous, recalling sheds, telephone booths, and miniature homes to draw attention to contemporary housing conditions and the shrinking scale of what is considered livable or attainable.
